I need some very good dog training methods for hunting (dog is a beagle)? I need some good methods for trianing a dog (beagle) for rabbit hunting. And obeadience without me having to bring it to a trainer.
What age should you start training your hunting dog? I have a female, golden retriever, she is almost 1 yr old (jan. 1st). When should i start to teach her how not to be gun shy?

Any good tips or ideas for training a dog for pheasant hunting? I have a black lab that's 6 months old now, she's fairly well trained at this point on the basic commands. I've taken her out in the woods for excercise to get her in good shape so that she'd be able to handle hunting in the fields. Just wondering what some good tips or training strategies work best. Especially for staying close, not chasing birds 100 yards away, listening when getting super excited. Those were problems with my previous dog but she learned what to do after a few times. My pups now already knows what BIRD means, I've hid a dummy bird with a pheasant winning on it and she's really good at sniffing it out. So she should know what to look for just a matter of teaching her everything else. Any help on the matter is appreciated.
How determine if puppy will be good bird hunting dog? I have a 3 mos old half retriever half poodle I am interested in training to hunt with me. I know people who hunt with this breed well. But do you know any way I can determine if my pup has bird hunting potential, if he would take to it? Hunting dog..? my 15 month black lab is a very eager retriever on land and in water, he's a natural, i've never trained him before. However, when in the field he gets OVER excited when i shoulder mount the gun, how can i stop this? Dog Training? We have a Yellow Labrador who is seven months old. He has already learned how to sit, lay down, and put his hands up. I really appreciate the breed. I was wondering if there are any classic tricks or skills that I could teach him. I know that labs tend to be water dogs and we have a large lake in front of our house. If you have a trick/skill please explain how to go about training him. I also would like to train him with a whistle but I have no idea how to go about doing it. He is very willing to learn and seems to enjoy performing. He is a purebred, his father was bred for show and his mother was a hunting dog. He came from a reputable breeder and is an amazing dog. How much do dog training lessons at PETCO usually cost? My dog's (he's a Beagle) about 8 months, and he's pretty much crazy. he cant control himself, always pulls the leash, still goes all over the place, eats just about everything he can find, and goes absolutely WILD whenever we have a guest over. I know Beagles are hunting dogs and hound dogs, so their really outgoing and stuff, but this is extreme, and my dog is driving my whole family insane. My parents actually want to send him away now. I absolutely NEED to find a place to get him lessons So, can somebody tell me Are PETCO dog training lessons worth it? Should i take the class or private lessons? How much do they cost? Any help would be appreciated! :) Great suggestions guys!, But my parents aren't going to go around searching for special dog trainers, which is why i pretty much only have PETCO or other stores / classes. My Cousin wants to go Mountain Lion hunting. What caliber gun does he need to take for the hunt? My cousin is planning a Mountain Lion Hunting trip. How do i use a silent dog whistle to train my dog? my dog is a owner-trained service dog in training. and i'm invistigateing different postive and humane ways to train my sdit. we have tried clicker training. I need an easier way to get her attention when outdoors when we are going down the street with me in my power wheel chair. I'm not strong enough to work her with choke collar corrections and she pulls even against the choke collars and I don't want to hurt her throat or neck so thought what about using a dog whistle? how do I use a dog whistle to train her? are dog whistles only used to train bird dogs to hunt? How do I get the cat to like the family dog? The family I work for (as a live-in nanny) as this adorable golden retriever. She was trained as a hunting dog and is very well behaved. Feed dog inside kennel? I have a puppy I am training to sleep in a kennel and I am training him in other ways. I am new to kennels. He is a retriever and will also be trained to retrieve geese, etc in about 6 months. I read an article by a guy who trains hunting dogs to come to their kennel on command and sounds like he has done well. One suggestion he has is to feed the dog Inside the kennel and avoid any chew toys in the kennel. He works to make the kennel a refuge. What do you think of feeding the dog Inside the kennel and do you have any other suggestions on training? He is still not potty trained after two weeks (has an accident inside now and then) though we take him out often and give him rewards. That is also a concern.
