Does anyone know where I can find good feral hog hunting in Texas? I've been looking around, but it seems the only feral hog hunting I can find in Texas is guided. I'm not interested in paying someone to hunt on their land as Texas is host to a vast ammount of public hunting land. It would be great if someone could help direct me to some decent public hunting grounds for feral hogs.
Feral Hog Hunting in SE Texas / Bullet weight for hog hunting? 1) Does anyone know of any reasonably priced day hunts for hogs in southeast TX (I live in Houston)? Or, does anyone have some property where 1-2 hunters could take a few hogs off your hands? 2) Would 150gr rounds (.30-06) be sufficient to put down a hog cleanly, or would 180gr be better?
texas hogs hunt lease? Hi folks, does anyone have information on hog hunt lease, or know some landowner has lease for hog hunt. thanks.
I was hunting and heard a wierd noise? I hunt in texas and when i was in the deer stand i heard this "oooooo" sound. I heard it twice i wanted to record it but i was kind of scared it might be a big foot. It sounded really like a guerilla saying it but im not sure. What do you think it could be? It didn't sound like a cayote and theres hogs out there and deer.
Does anyone know where I can hunt hogs for free in North Texas(DFW area)? Specifically, I'm looking for land owned by ranchers or farmers with hog problems. I don't want to charge for killing the hogs, so long as I am not charged to hunt. I don't have any dogs, and wouldn't be hunting with any right now, although it would be nice to know where I could hunt with dogs in the future. Since I wouldn't have any dogs with me, I would be using a rifle.
How do I connect with my brother who is jealous and insecure about inheritance? South Texas families with separate ranches. 1 on mothers side and 1 one dads side. They have been handed to my parents after their parents died. Mothers ranch has been leased for at least 4 generations to the same hunters. No room for a new lease. My brother always took his friends any time to hunt deer and hog. My father called and spoke to my husband and told him the hunters didn't mind that he and his son (my step son) joined them for hog hunting. My brother arrived the same weekend. Now we were all very close good friends. My brother did not like the fact that my husband was there and reacted badly and was combative. 5 years later, he still will not talk to me. I've thrown all the balls in his court to be nice and still no response. My mother had the worst experience with her brother when her parents died. Mother went through a nitemare with her brother with inheritance.
Is it wrong to cross breed dogs for a specific purpose when all the puppies are already spoken for? Me and my buddies hunt nuisance hogs here in Texas and cross breed hounds and bulldogs for hunting the hogs and someone said it was wrong. But every puppy we get from it are always spoken for and end up in good homes where they are treated well. Whats so wrong with that? We arent using random dogs, we use male pit's with a female catahoula and a female black mouth cur. And im not a big fan of the blue lacy. The ones I have come across have been nervous. Every dog we have gotten from this is a better hunter than its pure bred parents.
No charges Filed? No charges for man who shot immigrant while hunting in Texas LAREDO, Texas -- A hunter who fatally shot an undocumented immigrant on a South Texas ranch when he mistook the man for a hog should not be indicted, a Maverick County grand jury has decided. The grand jury's no bill means Jaime Gonzalez will not be charged with manslaughter or criminally negligent homicide for the 2004 shooting near El Indio. Gonzalez, of Eagle Pass, had told authorities he was shooting at a wild hog about 150 feet away when Celestino Lopez was struck in the abdomen.

Any suggestions for places to hunt Ram and Hogs? Im open to any place in U.S. but it looks like Texas has the most. I am an archery only hunter. Please serious answers only! I' m looking for information on guides or ranches that offer hunts.Prefer first hand reports Thanks

Caliber 270 or 308? I live in South Texas and I want to hunt both hog and deer, I am not going to bring gun brand into this question, but should I buy a caliber 270 or 308. And what are the main differences between the two, if there are any?
.30-.30 hog hunting? I`ve gone to every website I could find and could never find out if a Marlin model 336W with 170 grain would be ok for hogs at the most 100 yards in texas
What are the requirements for hunting in Sam Houston National Forest, Texas....? What are the requirements for hunting in Sam Houston National Forest? I know that you have to have an anual hunting permit, which I belive can be covered by buying an anual public hunting land permit (please correct me if I'm wrong). I know that you have to have a licence for whatever it is that you are hunting (if required). One of the things that confuses me is the requirement for wearing hunters orange...I've read that you are required to wear hunters orange no matter what you are hunting. I've also read that you are only required to wear hunters orange if you are deer hunting (you have to wear "x" amount of square inches of hunters orange), so I am confused. Does anyone know the true regualations. I don't deer hunt in these parts....I duck hunt on lake conroe (which backs up to the national forest) and am interested in doing some squirrel hunting in the national forrest (hog too if I come across one). I don't want any trouble with game wardens, so please help me clarify the rules.
Starting a game ranch? I know some of you guys on here are guides or owners of hunting/wildlife businesses. In the next few years, I would like to start a small-scale exotic game ranch here in Texas. 100 acres or so of high-fenced land, and I'd want to have hogs and a couple of species of deer (fallow and axis, most likely). I'd probably put up a few trailers or build some bungalows, too. Any pointers with regard to financing this? Any pointers in general? Thanks.
I am looking for a good tracking dog. I take many novices as well as youth out hunting (for free) a lot throughout the year. I do spend time with them teaching them shot placement and marksmanship prior to the hunt but unfortunately not all shots are well placed resulting in wounding an animal. I HATE wounding animals. That is where the tracking dog would come in. I am good at tracking myself but I am limited to sight tracking. I also have two children that would spend time with the dog. I live in East Texas and would mainly be tracking wounded hogs and deer as well as some small game. Any suggestions?
How does the .45 acp perform against wild hogs? I am planning to go hunting into the national forest here in Texas, it is close to where I live. My primary hunting gun is my 7.62 x 54mm Mosin Nagant rifle and my second gun will be a Colt 1911 .45 acp with the 5 inch barrel. I know that the Russian 7.62 x 54mm rifle will definitely beat the snot out of the hogs, but I would like to know how does the .45 acp perform against wild hogs. My 1911 is my back up firearm. Thanks.
Is my Uncle right or wrong? I am confused.? I am 9years old. I will be spending the holidays on my uncles ranch in texas. We live in the city, outskirts area in a sub division. My uncle has promised to take me hunting for deer, coyotes and wild hogs. He sent me a bb gun in the mail and 5000 bbs. He told me I should shoot at birds to hone my skils at shooting at moving objects. He said this will get me use to a real gun and i will know what it is like to take one animal down. Do you think this will really help me with my shootin and hunting skils. I am real excited.
Few Questions about Hog Hunting.? I plan to go Hog Hunting this Thanksgiving and would like to know some information about such. 1. What's the most effective firearm against Hogs? Shotguns are Rifles? 2. If shotguns, would a 12-gauge buckshot work? 2a. If rifles, would a .223 be fine? 3. What's the most effective way to hunt Hog?(Tree-stand, etc) 4. Is there a bag-limit on hogs if they are considered a nuisance?(Texas and Louis.) 5. Are hogs dangerous even if dealt with properly and maturely? Thanks in Advance.
Which grain is the best to use? I own a Mossber 4x4 7mm rem. mag. I am hunting everything in Texas from white tail to mule deer to hogs. Most of my shots will be in the range of 200-300 yards. I have heard that the heavier grain will be a little overkill on a 100-200 yard shot. I am just wondering what grain will drop the animal the best but not destroy more meat than needed.
are these good guns ? I want to get a Remington 870 express 20 ga. shotgun. I want to know if I should get the 26" or 28" barrel for get basic skeet shooting and maybe a little water fowl hunting. Also what kind of loads should i get. I know Remington is trustworthy brand so i feel like it would be a good gun, if you have one please give me your feedback. Also i want to get a Mossberg 100 ATR scope combo rifle in .243, because it is fairly lite and the ammo isn't that expensive. would this be a good gun to hunt whitetails, bobcats, and hogs in south east texas. If you have either of these guns or have shot one please feel free to leave input or any ammo recomendations. i have also considered a .270 but i am 14 so recoil is an issue that is why i want the 20 guage
