Hunting with a firearm in michigan starts soon and i was curious when these specific seasons were...i have a pretty good idea but i want 2 know like the months and days and that type of information about hunting.
Reloaders: Which 223 bullet for hunting whitetail deer? I intend to hunt whitetails this season with my AR-15. What type of bullet is best and what is the heaviest bullet that I can load to magazine length without sacrificing powder capacity? My state allows 223's for deer and I am not looking for suggestions for other calibers, I am simply trying to load the best and most humane 223 that I can shoot from a semi-auto.

Whitetail Deer Hunting Weather Conditions "Kansas"? hunting whitetail deer in south Mississippi. need your help? i'm hunting by a food plot about the size of a football. there are two logging roads that connect to the plot, that is the only way to get the plot. there are lots and lots of fresh track in and all around the plot. there is a small creek about 250 yds away with running water. i position myself at the back of the plot so that i can cover and can see down both roads. or i move to the other side of the plot which ever position is down wind of where the deer come in and out. i still hunt from daylight to about 10 am then start stalking. i'm seeing all these signs but have yet to see a deer. how would you hunt this area. any advise i could try

223 rem for deer hunting? is the 223 remington good for whitetail deer hunting?
I want to get a mini 14 rifle in .223 caliber for varminting and also whitetail hunting. Is this possible? the .223 round is widely disputed as a deer round, but works great for small game. If you get 75/90 grain, and took close shots, would the mini 14 be suitable for deer hunting also?
Hunting Deer--Basic Info Needed. Help a Writer? I'm a writer, working on a story in which there's a brief scene with a character hunting whitetail deer in upstate New York's Catskill Mountains. I'm finding the details devilishly hard. I know most hunters prefer a stand, but might he lie on the ground? (I'd like to establish that he's good at this sort of shot, since later he won't be hunting deer.) If so, would he just lie on ground that's cold and possibly wet? If not, what would he lie on? Second, and this is the one so basic I can't believe the answer's not easily found online--does your basic unnamed hunting rifle eject brass cartridges, and would the hunter pick up his brass before approaching his deer? 1st Season Shotgun for Whitetail Deer: Walk or Sit? That is the Question? I'm going out for my 5th year of deer hunting here in Iowa in two days and I'm torn between walking the timber and switch-grass to try to bump out a buck, or to sit along a trail and wait. I have had luck both ways but I wanted to hear some peoples opinions. The temperature will be in the low teens in the morning and the twenties in the afternoon with a large winter storm moving in during the morning with snow, sleet, and freezing rain, a perfect storm.

Coming from a mule deer background and living in georgia now what is the best way to hunt a whitetail? Whitetail hunting in upstate and western NY.? I normally hunt around Cobleskill area but it seems that the deer population has migrated to other locations. For the past 2 or 3 years I have only been able to bag a doe or a spikehorn. Has anybody got any idea of some good Whitetail hunting areas that seem promising for larger Whitetail near where I hunt. Why don't whitetail deer have kidneys? I have field dressed(gut) hundreds if not close to a thousnd whitetails in my 25 years of hunting,they have a liver but no kidneys,i'm not the only deer hunter that has wondered this.I have no problem giving 10 points to the correct answer

What is this screaming Whitetail doe? I'm back from hunting whitetail deer in Parry Sound, Ontario, and during the entire week there was this one deer I saw multiple times that, when alerted or afraid, would yell out this high-pitched, throaty scream that would resonate throughout the forest. I went on YouTube immediately when I got home and didn't find any videos showing this weird scream. I also searched on Yahoo! and couldn't find any answers. Is this the weirdest thing you have ever heard of? Have you ever seen it happen or heard it happen? I've heard buck calls before but nothing like this. Hopefully I'm not the only one in the world to have witnessed a screaming doe.

I have an old Model 94 Winchester chambered in a .32 Winchester Special, a CZ 550 American in .308 (great for fields a bit cumbersome for the woods), a Remington 7600 Synthetic Carbine in .30-06 and a Browning BLR in .308 Winchester. All but the Model 94 are scoped. I'd love to find an accurate mauser-style bolt-action chambered in .260 Remington with a hinged floorplate and 22" barrel. Then, I'd get rid of the pump .30-06 and lever .308.

What is the largest caliber rifle You will hunt Whitetail deer with? After reading the thread and responses about using the .223 for deer it made me curious about largest caliber. I have always been told the .338 Win Mag. was overkill. However after using one for myself I found it is very well suited using a 200 grain or lighter bullet. 1 well placed shot, deer goes down, no tracking. What more could You want? And yes I have done the same thing with a .25-06 rem, .280 rem and .30-06 sprg but not with the same consistancey. I agree there is no "best" caliber for everywhere. I have seen .270 win with light bullets and hot loads bloodshot meat. So I agree, I think speed of impact makes a difference in bloodshot meat.
Mosin Nagant for whitetail hunting? I know the 7.62x54 will work for deer hunting in Michigan, but my question is what bullet would I use? I don't reload so I need the best hunting round I could find. Another thing, I know all rifles are different, but are you guys getting good groups at 100 yards with mosin nagants?

Multiple whitetail deer hunting questions? (Southeast United states) ? I live on the alabama gulf coast in Baldwin Coutny al. I hunted as a child until i was 17, left the sport, an now starting again at 28, Since i have moved back home. here are some questions i have. 1. When would the rut start in my area, I have a "rattle bag" to simulate fighting bucks and a "estrus call". but i dont want to use then too early. 2.I have a "food plot" on the corner of our 40 acres, and behind us is a 500 acre hunting camp. I have put out deer blocks and buck jam. Plus we just put in winter pasture "rye grass" and "clover". I would think that the deer would travel to our property to eat or would it to be to far.they are licking on the blocks we set out so thats a good sign! but they are about 500 yards from the pasture. 3. Whats my max distance with both a 20. ga slug/bshot, and a 12 ga slug/bshot. from the blind to mineral blocks its about 25 yards. Any comments tips and advice welcome too! Thanks!!
Deer Hunting--Rifles and Scopes? I want to get started deer hunting. I have been looking for a rifle and a little bit at scopes. I want to find a rifle that is a good gun and light on my wallet. Something maybe around 4-6 hundred, also, something maybe either bolt-action or pump. Price on a scope isn't that important to me, I know someone who works for Bushnell and could get me one for cheap. What would be a good scope for Whitetail deer hunting and maybe a little Coyote hunting!? I want something I can use at 180 and upclose. What do you think?
