Which rifle is best for deer hunting in Texas? My husband wants to go deer hunting when the season begins. This would be his first time hunting. We don't know what rifle to get. Is 30-30 a good choice? Or any other rifles that would be best for deer hunting?

Can a convicted felon go deer hunting in Texas? My brothers have a friend they want to invite deer hunting but think that since he spent time in prison, he can't go hunting. He is not on parole. I know he can't purchase a firearm, but do you know if he can get a license and USE one of their rifles? Can they GIVE him a rifle or is that forbidden because of his conviction? How can I find a deer lease in Texas? I am trying to find options for a Deer Lease in Texas. I live in Dallas but I am willing to travel a few hours to get somewhere. I'd prefer a lease where me and family can all lease out together, not get on a lease with a bunch of strangers who happens to have an empty deer-stand. I don't wanna just go out and buy some land, as I'm looking for somewhere that's established for deer hunting. What are the requirements for hunting in Sam Houston National Forest, Texas....? What are the requirements for hunting in Sam Houston National Forest? I know that you have to have an anual hunting permit, which I belive can be covered by buying an anual public hunting land permit (please correct me if I'm wrong). I know that you have to have a licence for whatever it is that you are hunting (if required). One of the things that confuses me is the requirement for wearing hunters orange...I've read that you are required to wear hunters orange no matter what you are hunting. I've also read that you are only required to wear hunters orange if you are deer hunting (you have to wear "x" amount of square inches of hunters orange), so I am confused. Does anyone know the true regualations. I don't deer hunt in these parts....I duck hunt on lake conroe (which backs up to the national forest) and am interested in doing some squirrel hunting in the national forrest (hog too if I come across one). I don't want any trouble with game wardens, so please help me clarify the rules.

I was hunting and heard a wierd noise? I hunt in texas and when i was in the deer stand i heard this "oooooo" sound. I heard it twice i wanted to record it but i was kind of scared it might be a big foot. It sounded really like a guerilla saying it but im not sure. What do you think it could be? It didn't sound like a cayote and theres hogs out there and deer.

why do some deer hunters think feeders are bad or unethicle?and how do you spell ethicle? So I worked at a hunting ranch in south texas for a month during my winter break this year and it was high fenced but about 30000 acres. And when the feeder went off (for a ridiculus 15 seconds) the same big bucks would show up at the same feeder everyday at the same time, and would stand there even after i shot a couple does. now that was ridiculus and maybe unethicle! But where ive grown up hunting in Central Texas it seems as the Bucks there are smarter, we have never killed a big mature buck at a feeder. they just wont go! but what it does accomplish is keeping the does coming to the feeder which may have a buck with her that stays back, which gives us at least a chance. to me this is not unethicle, am i wrong? why? and am i spelling ethicle right? can i not get some people to explain why its ok! i know theres some out there!
Do Pre-rifled slugs work or is it better to use buckshot? This will be my first year to hunt deer with a shotgun and im not sure which is better to use and what choke to go with it. Does anyone own a hunting cabin/shack near Rio medina Texas? I am trying to locate an small hunting shack/cabin in the woods somewhere near Rio Medina, TX. I know it has a tin roof, and I think that there are 3 sheets of tin -- 2 are older and rustier than the 3rd one, so I think it was replaced recently -- a little kitchen-type area with a pump for water at the sink and a camp stove, is in a wooded area that has some river that borders the woods on the east and north, has a pretty large deer head hanging on the wall, a wood stove for heat, and at least one cot with Army blankets. I need to find this place -- anybody out there know of it?

Buying my first rifle, going on my first hunt, and I have some questions. Non-hunters and ant-gunners plz GTFO To be used for deer hunting in southern Texas. Outside chance of travelling to Michigan to hunt with friends. Thinking Savage 111FCXP3 (package with scope) for $375. Probably only going to use it a few times a year. Plan to shoot a lot at the range at first to get comfortable with it. 1.) Recoil: People say the kick from .270 vs. .30-06 is the same difference. As a 200 lb. 25 year old, will I regret not getting the .270 after firing off a couple boxes? 2.) Meat: Would a .270 render less meat unusable than the .30-06, or is a well-placed shot going to destroy about the same amount? 3.) Accu-trigger: Worth the extra hundred dollars for the next-higher model, or should I stick with this one for starters? 4.) Headshot: If I shot a deer in the head, would that release spinal/brain fluid and thusly taint the meat? I would like to use all the meat. 5.) Will any "Springfield" ammo work in my .30-06? 6.) Rifle, knives, boots, blaze orange, gloves, doe urine... what else do I need?

Polaris sportsman 400 HO? I bought a 2008 Polaris 400 HO for deer hunting in west Texas. I bought it due to price and what I thought to be a... "brand Name" Machine.... But looking in to it after the fact...seems like everyone hates polaris? I will be only using to go to and from my deer stand and to fill feeders. How do I connect with my brother who is jealous and insecure about inheritance? South Texas families with separate ranches. 1 on mothers side and 1 one dads side. They have been handed to my parents after their parents died. Mothers ranch has been leased for at least 4 generations to the same hunters. No room for a new lease. My brother always took his friends any time to hunt deer and hog. My father called and spoke to my husband and told him the hunters didn't mind that he and his son (my step son) joined them for hog hunting. My brother arrived the same weekend. Now we were all very close good friends. My brother did not like the fact that my husband was there and reacted badly and was combative. 5 years later, he still will not talk to me. I've thrown all the balls in his court to be nice and still no response. My mother had the worst experience with her brother when her parents died. Mother went through a nitemare with her brother with inheritance.

Can you feed deer legally in your suburban backyard in Texas if you are not hunting them? I have up to 16 come everyday to feed. I live in a suburban neighborhood but have 4 acres of wooded land. I have had them come for the past 5 years but they are extremely abundant this year.

Deer hunting with an AR-15 rifle? I am planning to go deer hunting this November. I have successfully completed and passed the Texas Hunter's Education Program. I am buying my Resident Hunter's License and Annual Public Hunting permit soon. I have also scheduled an annual hunting lease for $800 on a rancher's property 45 miles outside of Austin, Texas. I own several guns at home, I now have a Bushmaster AR-15, a Century Arms Galil rifle, a Bulgarian AK-47, a Rossi .38 special revolver, a Colt 1911 .45 pistol, and a 1895 Nagant revolver. The most accurate gun of my collection is my AR-15 and I enjoy taking it to the range every weekend. I spoke with the Game Warden and hunting with an AR-15 is legal here in the state of Texas. My rifle is equipped with a great telescope and bullet drop compensator and I also own a laser rangefinder to help me calculate the distance to my target. Some people say that an AR-15's .223 remington round can't kill a deer. Yet most of these critics, have never hunted deer with the .223 round or even tried it. A lot of the guys who hunt in this place where I booked my lease, are using AR-15's and only 2 of them have an AR-10. I spoke with them and they told me not to use the light 55 grain .223 round on deer. They recommended that I use the 64 grain soft point .223 round or the 77 grain soft point .223 round made by Sierra Matchking series. These heavier bullets delivered more foot lbs. of energy when they struck the deer, and a heavier .223 round is less likely to yaw and has greater penetration. But of course, I learned that there was a disadvantage. For maximum effectiveness against whitetails and mule deer, they recommended that I shoot at deer from less than 120 yards away, because the heavier bullet tends to lose velocity at a greater rate than the lighter 55 grain round. I am hunting from a deer stand that is at a 46 yard distance from an automatic corn feeder. If there is a .223 hunting load or make that you have used successfully to hunt deer, please tell me about it or please share your deer hunting experience with a .223 round.
