South Texas Pig Hunting? I am going to Texas pig hunting at the end of the month. Just wondering what caliber of rifle to bring. The standard for me is a 30-06. I know pigs are tough, but I am not sure of that will be too much gun. I know...I know...there can never be too much gun right??? Just curious. I have a 22-250 that is accutate as all get out, <1" group at 100 yards. The next biggest is a 30-06. The only problem I think I will encounter with the 250 is bullett fragmentation. I want to walk and stalk the pigs, but will most likely be hunting from elevated blinds with an average shot os 70-90 yards (per outfitter's info) I am booked with Double C ranch (huntingwithjeff.com). Should I go to a pig roast if I am vegetarian? They do have veggie burgers there but I'm 13 years old and would the sight of a real looking pig being roasted scare me. Do they actually buy a real pig, butcher it there, and then roast it? Or do they buy an actual dead pig? Should I make an excuse not to go? They are a hunting family.

How can I deter my Bichon from hunting mice? We have an open field behind our house and last night I discovered my Bichon (at night) with a mouse hanging out of her mouth. She wasn't eating it, just holding it. It's neck was cut open. Until tonight, I thought she chased off another animal who had done that to the mouse. Tonight I caught her pouncing on and chasing another mouse through our yard. I have three dogs that love to spend time outside. How can I deter the mouse hunting (I want to make sure she doesn't eat it) without having to be present 24/7? Also, my Bichon is really sweet and loves all animals. Has anyone shot out of the remington 7600 pump action rifle, and can they tell me how good it is? I want to use the Remington pump action rifle for pig hunting in scrub at close range, and in open areas where I may need to take shoots out to 250 yards. Are they accurate at long distances? Poachers dieing to hunt animals for the dollar, people killing dear…This is not acceptable! Don’t you agree? In class, we looked at an example. I was completely offended. We’re “innocent” humans? Uh, No, sad as it may sound, we are very absent-minded. We are allowed to kill mountain lions because we wanted to jog there and these lions are desperate to find something to eat? We kill animals for pleasure! We’re the ones who pick on sad little bugs and build factories and stomp on innocent ants for pleasure. We’re the ones that kill cows, pigs, bunnies, and dogs for that feast. We’re the ones that pollute our area! Look around, poor people on the streets when nobody cares. Billionaires and even us who barley chips in a cent. For our “fun” We buy video games (which wastes electricity and boosts up global warming!) Chips, Pop, all the junk that we need to “survive!” witch is actually making us fatter and unhealthy when that money could go to amazing use! Here’s the thing… Why can’t we jog somewhere else? We’re the only ones who carelessly poison the earth and waste money on things that we need to “take pleasure in” And when all the people who really need help, poor people, and even endangered spices, it’s too “costly!” Are chips more important than our earth and other spices that do nothing to us!? Those mountain lions and deer deserve a BIG bite out of all of us! If we all combined some of the money they spend on junk we could buy millions of helicopters to drop off meat from dead animals that died from old age onto animals’ habitats for a nice meal. Why don’t we leave them alone and live somewhere else. Why do we get to attack living animals for a meal when they can’t to us? We can all work together! If we leave them alone and fed the animals and spent the extra money on things that helped, we could all live happily. We humans need to sharpen up. Ban the hunting forever and make donating a part of every lifestyle! Remember..I'm like 10 years old..don't be too harsh! (unless you totally have to!)

Hunting dogs!? I am looking at getting a medium sized dog for pig hunting, I dog that will hold down a wild hog while I relocate it or kill it humanely..I Cant keep American pitbull terriers (they are banned in Australia) So was thinking a Stafordshire bull terrier would be good. I dont have access to black mouth curs or american breeds like that..And I dont want a dog to big bout 30kg or under.. I wont be hunting alone I will go with a friend that also has dogs. Thank you very much! Gun laws in Australia are not like americas, The pigs round here dont get much over 100kg, My mate will have two dogs, An Amstaff and a Ambulldog. Labradoors will not hold a pig they will only bay..The beagles nose is too strong and it gets walks to far, so you need a tracking system for them. Pigs are a terrible pest..Hunting pigs with dogs is not bad that is what happens in the wild and plus pigger are alot more nasty then dogs.

hunting deer and pigs with a .223 rifle? If the only gun you own is a .223 rifle, and you need to go hunting for food, would it be able to kill a big deer or pig with one shot to the body. I will be going hunting for wild pigs or do you call them boars? It's in New Zeland? A mate over there has a gun license and will be hunting with him but would like to buy my own gun. the last gun I have shot was a 22 bolt action rifle as this was over 10 years a go I have no Idea what kind of rifle I want must be able to have a scope put on it. My mate say a 303 but I have no Idea if that would be good for a novice. I would perfeer one with only a little feed back as I bet my aiming is not to good. 7.62X54R (M44) Mosin Nagant for pig huntin', what are your thoughts? I have hunted pigs with knives, spears, bows, and of course firearms. I am very well trained using bayonets as well. I am kicking around the idea of using my M44 as a pig sticker next season. I really need well founded opinions on the point bayonet provided on the M44. I know that bayonet is designed for pointing and stabbing and not cutting. It is a long cylindrical piece of steel with a nice razor tip. Would you use it in close quarters for pigs??? I don't use dogs, I just dig them out of the brush and pray for the best. Would you do it? What would you have as backup? Other than the rifle of course. I would really like informed opinions. I am risking my neck here. Thanks Come on buck, you can do better than that. Knives aren't really all that different, just never used a point bayonet. I don't intend to shoot it unless I have too. Just wondered about the pointy end. Akluis, if I decide to do it I definitely will. I am just chicken. I don't think that pointy tip will be much effect and I will be kilt dead. That pig'll bite me.... Should I aim for the point between the shoulder blades or try to get him low and in the heart???? Don't have a groove on this thing.
Hogzilla II: hunting, or target practice.? Story posted on Yahoo news May 25: Three hunters were hunting wild pig in the southeast US. Two adults armed with high powered rifles, and a young child armed with a high caliber pistol. The pig weighed over 1000 pounds. The boy shot the pig 10 times with the pistol, and tracked the pig for over three miles before executing the animal with a final point blank shot. Bear in mind the adults said they were always ready to dispatch the animal with their high powered rifles IF the pig turned and charged. I am no hunter, but seems to me the hunting ethic should be dispatch the prey quickly and as painlessly as possible. Guess there are no animal rights laws covering such behavior?

Hunting properties wanted vic or nsw? Hi im from melbourne, in victoria australia, and i have just returned from a 10 hour drive from nsw, in search for pigs on a hunting trip. I had no luck with shooting any pigs, but got a couple of deers and a few wild goats, heap of rabbits and some other game. My question is im after a property to go hunting on which is either in victoria or close to victoria in nsw, which has deer or pigs, and is worth the drive going to. I have my gun licence, and i act responsible, so there will be no problems here. Thanks I have already tried in land hunting properties on the net, they were expensive and sent me on a large property claiming there were plenty of pigs there, and we did not find one, or even any sign of them being there. Im after private owners to get in touch with me, or even any areas of crown government land where we are aloud to shoot.

feral pig in bed? My friend seems to be falling into...decay. Since her oldest daughter returned home her standards have really dived. They have a feral pig which someone caught hunting and it is sleeping in the bed with the girls. It poops in the bed even. They think this is cute. We think its gross. It is the law in australia that we kill feral animals, not make them pets, due to diseases etc. I have kept my mouth shut, but this really is horrible. This is an urban home, not a farm. Should I just say nothing? Its illegal to keep a feral pig as a pet - so they can't get shots from a vet.

What is an ideal set-up for an AR 15 rifle (with suppressor) for hunting large pigs? I'm looking to set-up an AR-15 rifle for pig hunting. I don't necessarily need night vision, but I am looking for something with a suppressor & sub-sonic rounds. Pigs travel in packs sometimes and I need to cull down the population by bagging as many as I can before they run. What's the difference between laser hunting and golf range finders? I want to get a laser range finder for my first elk hunt but don't have much cash. Stoeger Condor Chokes for Hunting? I want to know what type of choke would be best for Pig Hunting and the best for bird hunting (duck,pigeon) and also the best for rabbits.(so give me the best choke, meaning 1 choke for each) I have a Stoeger Condor Outback. It comes with IC and M chokes. I can purchase C, IM and F. For pigs I will use 00 buckshot and I don't know yet for birds and rabbits.
