Is it safe to eat wild pig meat (well cooked) when pregnant? A family member caught two baby pigs (wild, they caught them in live traps) and gave them to my mom. Well, she basically raised them and my dad b-b-qued one of them. She was really upset because even though they were wild, they would eat out of her hand and she refuses to eat it. I'm concerned about eating it because I am 5 months pregnant and don't know if it's safe to eat. They smoked the pig(on a bbq pit that has a smoker box I think is what they call it) all night so approx. 15 hrs. What do you think? I'm thinking I won't be eating it.... Just to clarify...to the one person who thinks we cooked a baby pig, I said my mom RAISED them...they were fully grown now. And also they weren't domestic pigs, they were wild, that's why I'm nervous about eating it.
Wild pig hunting? In the opinion of experienced hunters, would an SKS in 7.62x39 be enough gun for a razorback hunt?
What would be the physical differences between a boar (wild pig) bite and a dog bite. Link to photo a +. TY I need this for part of a story I'm working on, so as much detail as possible. If you want to go into the way a boar might attack (a person) vs. how a wolf might do it, that would be helpful as well. Thank you Jim, that was very helpful. I should have been a bit more specific maybe. The situation in question is a victim found partially eaten. What would be the difference in the bite marks from that point. For example, I know carnivors often eat from the hindquarters forward. You can usuaully see dual puncture wounds from the canines. Birds start with the eyes and soft tissues. What would distinguish a pig from these other animals. Thanks again.
Is A 20 Gauge Shotgun loaded with #2 Buckshot Enough for Wild Pig? I'm going out for a California hog hunting trip in a few weeks and I have a friend who wants to come with me. Unfortunately I only have one big bore rifle. But, I do have a 20 gauge shotgun and I just bought some Federal Vital-Shok #2 Buck. I think it will be enough, am I correct? If it is enough, within what range can one reasonably expect to take down a piggy? 50 yards? I also have some Winchester Rifled Slugs, which I'm sure would work like a charm, but my shotgun does not have proper sights for slugs yet. I have no experience hunting big game with a shotgun, so clue me in, so I can clue him in.
Wild Boar / Pig Ham? What do I do now? A neighbor went hunting and killed (poor piggie) a wild Florida boar. Of course my husband thought it was a grand idea to accept the whole back leg (the ham) that was offered to him. After much hollering, I convinced him to cut off the boney leg part because it was turning my stomach and it wasn't going into my freezer like that. It now resembles the thigh or ham without this huge bendable leg (soo nasty - )... After much search on the internet, I need to know how to actually cook this thing. Do you salt cure? How do I cook it? Please don't suggest the hawaiian style of cooking it in the ground because I have beautiful grass and won't be digging a big ole' hole in it anytime soon. So if you can offer tips for this squeemish cook... I'd appreciate it! PS.. This ham weighs 18 pounds AFTER my husband cut off that big eewie bone. (yes, he weighted it.. YUCK!)

Do you think it's okay to put a wild rabbit and a domestic guinea pig in the same cage? Hi there A few Days ago my parents found a wild rabbit and brought it home for me and my little sister to see, My little sister is a huge fan of Rabbits so she begged our Parents To Keep It. It is very young and i would say its probably only just left it's mother a few weeks ago. My parents said they managed to save it from a cat who caught it just as they were riding past. It has no signs of any wounds. It had a gash in it's eye but that has healed really well. We have had it for about 3-4 days now and it seems really happy. We have got a big cage for it and bought food and hay from the pet store and a drinking bottle. I want to get a guinea pig aswell for it to have some company but am not sure if they will get along?! Please no Rude comments! I really liked Jessiham's Comment as u have been in a similar position as me. I have looked into the Laws about keeping wild animals and the New Zealand law doesn't seem to have a problem with it.
Need help with wild mice getting into rabbit/G pig hutch!? I very kindly bought a 6x4 shed for my rabbit and G pigs about 4 months ago. They both have little doorway holes in the side of the shed which leads to a huge run. However i have started to notice more and more mice droppings inside the shed. The run has small square mesh round the sides but normal chicken wire holed mesh for roof. So the only place i can think they are getting in is the gap under the run ! My question is... Do i attach a sheet of small square mesh to the bottom of the run to completely seal it or will they still get in? Any ideas of what i can do? Im sure its not healthy for wild mice to get to my pets! Any one else had this problem? just wanted to add .... i know its little mice as i have seen the odd one leap/running at me when i have gone to feed the rabbit and pigs.!
are we the wild pigs ? Do you know how to catch wild pigs?' The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young man said this was no joke. 'You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in The last side. The pigs, who are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat, you slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd. Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how To forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity. The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees happening to America. The government keeps pushing us toward Communism/Socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine, drugs, free medical, etc. while we continually lose our freedoms - just a little at a time. One should always remember 'There is no such thing as a free Lunch! Also, a politician will never provide a service for you cheaper than you can do it yourself. shodow, That was a very deep answer, I know that must have taken you a long time to ponder LMAO, Halfshaf you have a point there Capt America, We owe SO much to our brave men and women fighting for this country and ALSO our Fire Dept and Police services nellephant_1. You ALSO make a very good point. The US is no longer the one with all the power
Wild Pigs Control? We have been living in our house for almost 10 years. We have never been attacked by any wild animals till now. All my lawn in my front yards is destroyed by wild boars. They trampled, dug and pulled my grass out. And that actually happened to our neighbors, too. Do you have similar experience and what control did you take? Thanks.
What is the best Pig rifle? Shooting pigs is big in Australia. A lot of them about ripping up the bush. Blokes with chiller vans tour the countryside buying up carcusses for the German meat markets. I will be going hunting for wild pigs or do you call them boars? It's in New Zeland? A mate over there has a gun license and will be hunting with him but would like to buy my own gun. the last gun I have shot was a 22 bolt action rifle as this was over 10 years a go I have no Idea what kind of rifle I want must be able to have a scope put on it. My mate say a 303 but I have no Idea if that would be good for a novice. I would perfeer one with only a little feed back as I bet my aiming is not to good. I would like to only pay up to $1200(aus $ not usa $) as I will probley have problems getting it back to Austrila. the I'm thinking I'll only need one that can fire up to 180 meaters away. I don't think he got any pig dogs so it going to be a bit harder. Hope you can help a novice hunter let me know if you need to know more.
Muslims : If you where stranded on a desert island and the only protien was from wild pigs would you eat it? I do not mean to be disrespectful of your beliefs. it just that i am writing an essay. One school of thought from the reading that I have been doing is that anyone placed in a dire situation will abandon culture and let there biological instincts take over. The other view is that culture can always over rule biology. I thought that the Muslims pig taboo would be a good cultural tenat to examine to see view would be more correct. Thank you all so much for your answers.
How do guinea pigs get vitamin C in the wild? I know that guinea pigs need vitamin C daily from their diet because they can't produce it or store it on their own, but I have read that their natural diet in the wild is just grasses. Where do wild guinea pigs get their vitamin C?
Anyone got a picture of 'wild' guinea pigs? Do the sort of 'ansestors' of the modern guinea pigs still exist in the wild, and does anyone have a picture, or a site I can go to? I know they have relatives like cappibarras and prarie-dogs, but I mean the actual decendants. Thanks.

Looking for plans for a wild pig trap? Have problem with wild pigs. Shooting not possible due to closeness to houses. Can't get close enough due to terain with crossbow. Want to trap then so can then shoot with crossbow. Poisoning out due to people using area for exersisings dogs off leads. Snares no good as most are too cruel. Thanks for those answers guys. The Hockey goalies idea is very interesting but I like my ass just the way it is so i will pass on that one. I am in New Zealand for those who would like to travel. Like I say we are within 40m of houses so firearms are out. Would be one hell of a lot easier but I would probably get locked up. Good to see hunters around the world are all the same. Sometimes I wonder about the sanity of some of us. Had a good giggle at a couple of those answers. Thanks guys!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why are wild boar, hunted in South Texas, called Jabalinas, Jabalina are the collared peccary, not a pig .? I need to know what to call a wild boar and the collared peccary by their correct Spanish names. Everyone who hunts in So Texas calls wild pigs Jabalinas, or javelinas, and the dictionary does not bear this out, If the Collared Peccary is called a javelina, or javalina, or jabalina)due to its tusks looking like short spears (javelin) what is the wild boar, or feral hog, called in SPANISH? The dictionary just says cerdo and chancho. And no, I don't want to shoot one, I am writing about life in South Texas! Check out Texas, wild boar hunting on the net. And, for those in the know, it's not as simple as just shooting it. The Feral hog, wild pig, wild boar, whatever, has a thick "shield" of toughened skin around its neck, and the large ones cannot get taken down with any peashooter! That's the reason they are hunted by sport and not game hunters, They are taken mostly for the trophy! The meat is lean and tasty, though. Plus the javalina has a musk gland that will render any meat from it inedible if it is shot there, or if not skinned correctly. So, in Spanish, what is the feral hog called?
