okay im from newfoundland and theres seal hunting here , im a huge animal lover but i dont like the way we are being put down .
first of all when people say that ppl are hunting whitecoats , its illegal to hunt them u know for like 7 or more years now.
another why dont people say anything about hunting deer and or horse slaughter houses
clubbing a seal is the fastest way to kill it so it dont get hurt .
there are over 3 Millions seals and growing faster and faster .
i dont like it but i just wanted to say these facts that u people might not know about it .
so watch out what your hearing cuz some can be false information.

i am a ANIMAL LOVER im not taking the side of the sealers or anything but u dont live here , u dont know everything ,

1. At least with deer many people use the deer to eat. Seals are use for their skin and to hunt as "sport." Yes some people deer hunt for sport but many people actually make meat from them. And as far as slaughter houses and the way they work is horrible and disgusting and alot of people know about it and are trying to make it a better process, but everything takes time. We have to keep all these things in the media and known about so that people will actually start doing something about it. I'm glad seal hunting, slaughter houses, puppy mills, ect ect are in the media.... keeps people keeping their eye on them all.
2. Well, first off the US just passed a law banning horse slaughter. Seal pups are seal pups, no matter what color their coat is. The color doesnt make them any less innocent. Sealers are horrific heartless people that are making their money in blood..to much of the world dismay. These seals are brutally beaten to death, and are helpless infants. It id deplorable and inhumane and anyone that doesnt realize this does not have good morals and are barbaric at best. How false can the information all over the world be? Baby seals are being killed for their fur, many are skinned while still alive. Many of the seals skulls were examined my vets and over half were found to not have any skull fractures which insists that these babies were conscious when skinned. That is cruel and obviously you are NOT a "HUGE" animal lover, cause you would not condone this horrific activity. GOOD DAY!
3. I suppose the problem is that they do club seals in the head. And all you see are those precious little big eyed faces looking up. I understand there has to be order and control of the population. But, what do the animal population do for control before man showed up? Animals were here on earth way before man. the natural order takes care of itself. Polar bears starve while harp seals are cleaned up. What sense does this make?
Horse is eaten in many countries. I wouldn't do it. My ancestors, and still much of my family have been hunting the Dakotas for centuries. They live off of the lnd and honor the animals they kill.
I don't mean to criticise your country - or it's ways. But you have Iceland and Sweden which are still eating whale. Iceland will even hunt for whales that are endangered like the right whale. Why?? Let's look at China. It is tradition to serve shark fin soup at weddings. They catch the shark, cut off the fin and throw it back into the water. Sharks cannot survive without their fin to navigate. Even if they could the other sharks smell the blood and eat the finless animal. Japan is another country I could go on about. But then they take the focus off of these practices by initiating the Kyoto Accord. It's insane.
i know it's not your fault. And there are no world police to stop such things. I get very frustrated - sorry. I think part of the lack of understanding from the US side and I have many Canadian friends, is that your country is purported to be such an anti-violence country. you don't believe in the death penalty, but clubbing baby - yes baby - seals is okay. I hate to tell you, but that sounds pretty violent to me. It just seems a bit hypocritical.
4. The seal hunt never has been and never will be a sport.
The majority of seals are shot but most people seem to think they are all killed with Hakipiks.
I'm also from Newfoundland and there is a lot of rubbish floating around on the Internet about it.
If you want to protest you should know what it is all about. Not buy into the " baby seals being skinned alive" It's against the regulations to kill a seal pup and it is against the regulations to skin alive not to mention hard to do.
Harp seals are over 5 million in numbers and this is with a seal hunt that has gone on for hundreds of years.
Harp seals also abandon their young early on. After 12 days a seal is on it's own. Before that the mother leaves it to fight with the other pups for space returning only to feed it.
Seal meat oil and pelts are being used. If anything I think markets need to be expanded to make sure more meat is used.
The seal hunt employes thousands of First nations and Atlantic Canadians. It's a job just like any other these are not blood thirsty villians they're just trying to provide for their families.
If you don't have an issue with a hamburger you shouldn't have issue with flipper pie.
