What is so interesting about deer hunting?
I don't get what the big thrill of dressing up in camo, putting on bottled deer urine, climbing into a tree stand and shooting the deer with a high-powered rifle with a scope is all about. It's not real hunting....any real man would hunt a deer with his bare hands and if he could kill it....then he'd be a real hunter. Rifles are for pussies.
Even using a knife or spear...that'd be better. At least you'd learn the actual "hunting" skill that would be required if you were ever in need. I mean, after all...if you get lost somewhere how many high powered rifles with 300 yard scopes will be laying around? Be men goddamnit....strangle the deer and then eat it's bleeding heart.
Yikes, I always thought deer meat was really dry. I don't mind the jerky though.
And yes I have shot a deer before, and I thought it was really lame. I was there with my cousin in our tree stand and it just walked right out and I shot it. It was far, but with the scope I hit it right in the neck. The meat tasted like crap and gutting and skinning it was far too much hassle. If I were to hunt for meat again, it'd be at the grocery store with the rest of the people that have common sense. But to you folks that think you're preserving some "hunting tradition".......good luck to you and your deer (that odds are you've been baiting and luring for months now). Maybe he'll just fall over for you!

1. yeah i agree
2. i agree
3. Agreed, but u and I are of the minority. For the rest, it must be the thrill of the kill or a consuming taste for venison.
4. I've never been hunting before but I believe most hunters get the thrill of actually seeing a deer that they are able to shoot (after sitting in the tree stand for hours, seeing a deer would get me excited too). Then the thrill of knowing you shot something and you won't go to jail for it.
Deer meat is also really good.
5. in order to kill a dear with your bare hands, you have to catch it ya idiot! ! thats not gona happen unless you have truck! rifles are not for ******** rifles solve problems, rifles kill those who we dislike. of course rockets are better, but harder to get. if rifles are for ****** thne you calling our troops ******* and you cant kill a terrorist with your bare hands becasue ll they do is hide like pussies bomb like pussies, and fight like pussies! i personally think we should have nuked iraq long ago, but no, because of oil, and the stupid world powers, blahblahblah.
6. when i go into the woods i am not necessarily trying to be a manly man or anything like that. i am not one of those hunters that is trying to get the trophy. i just like deer meat and it is the easiest way for me to get it. i do know that even with the technology that we have today, you still get a rush when the deer steps out. the heart starts beating rapidly. the breathing gets uncontrollable. the hands begin to shake. even with a good scope it can be very difficult to make some shots at long ranges, so there is a little skill needed. i do enjoy to hunt with a bow which adds a slight degree of difficulty.
7. You're not an outdoorsy guy are you? Have you ever shot a rifle? Have you ever hiked up a mountain in moonlight? No flashlight because they would not only see it but hear the hum exerted from it that your ears are not capable of. Tried dragging a 300 lbs animal behind you and your way down a mountain? Best of all have you ever tasted wild game? Try shooting an animal that is 400 yards away hopping up a hill faster than any man can run, with no rest. It's not easy, the hunting shows on TV aren't real the deer dont just walk up and say shoot me. You'll never catch a deer with your bare hands, no man is Dumb enough to attempt that even prehistoric man used weapons, none as complex as the rifle, however even so. A mountain that would take you hours to climb, takes a deer minutes. A Deer's ears are so sensitive it would hear me typing on this keyboard over half a mile away. It's no walk in the park, maybe you should try experiencing something before you start running your mouth and calling people names. You'll never catch a deer even in a vehicle, they live in mtns and timber, on DIRT no asphalt. you'd simply become stranded and look like an idiot, of course you did post this... I'd like to mention you should get help about the whole eating a bleeding heart. You never have experienced the outdoors why are you talkin about being a man?
8. Deer hunting is interesting because it is a challenge. You have to scout out your hunting area and find out where the deer travel and figure out where the best place would be to put your blind or treestand. And you have to watch the wind direction and set up where you think the wind will blow your scent away from the direction you expect the deer to come. You have to know what part of the rut the deer are in (early pre-rut,seek and chase phase of pre-rut, the rut, early post-rut,and post-rut)so you know what scents to use.You have to use the right scents for the right phase otherwise the scent will spook deer. And you have to taget practice with your gun and sight in your scope so you can make a clean shot.Another thing you have to do is to get to your blind or stand without being detected by the deer. That can occasionally prove to be challenging. And yeah,it would be impressive if you could kill a deer with your bare hands, but it would be highly unlikely if you could. So what is interesting about deer hunting? It is the challenge and the skills required to kill a deer. With luck you can kill a deer without considering the things I mentioned above. It's possible. But real hunters use all of their skills and enjoy the whole experience.
9. In that case - You should know all about rifles!
Excellent inexpensive meat.
Let me know which store you can get 100lbs of 98% lean steaks for around $25.
If it tasted bad - you didn't fix it right.
It's lack of fat makes it taste different.
Also - if you go for the biggest, oldest deer (with a big rack), you're not going to get quite as good of the meat's as you do with a smaller 1 or 2 year old one.
10. I don't know the laws for all states but I know many require hunter orange. You only mention camo. I would hate to think you would shoot a dear illegally.
This is another "question" from a guy who doesn't like hunting and wants to tell everybody how he doesn't like anything unmanly. O.k. we get it, you are a real man just like the five other guys this month who wrote basically the same "question". Go back to answering questions about David Bowie's favorite cologne, stud.
I don't like professional sports. I must be manly too because I don't watch a bunch of guys running around.
You don't like hunting. Big deal.
11. You don't like hunting. That's your right.I love it,and will continue to do so.
Please do not call me a p*ssy for using a rifle to shoot deer.I also use a bow and a muzzleloader. Those weapons are definitely not for p*ssies.I haven't bashed your beliefs,so please refrain from bashing mine.
Thanks.
12. So Bill, you don't like hunting. Then what are you doing on this forum?
Obviously you don't have a whole lot of experience in the great outdoors or you would know that you are NEVER going to kill a deer with your bare hands. Animals ALWAYS have the advantage over Man; they have strength, speed, stealth, horn, fang and claw. Man is relatively weak for his size, slow because we are biped and we are thin-skinned. Not even the fictive Rambo could best a wild boar even with a huge Bowie knife much less mano-a-mano in the real world. You've been watching too many bad "B" action movies!
Rifles are for hunters who want to take game legally and as humanely as possible. You go back to taking mature buck deer with your bare hands. Get back to us on that, please!
