1. 7 1/2 shot. Bird shot in other words
2. The best you can buy are Hevi-Shot/Hevi13. Lead shot is the standard though. You will want to buy the heaviest magnum loads your gun will handle, in shot sizes of #4, 5 or 6.
3. My personal preference is a #6 in a 3" magnum shell. Check to see if you gun can fire the 3 or 3.5" shells, if not, a 2 3/4 will do and you might want to move up to a 4 or 5, though.
Some of my friends and spoke highly about the new alloy type shells for turkey. Tungsten and Bismuth, but I have not used them yet. Hope you get a gobble goose!
4. I use #5 in 3 inch mags. You need to know what size shell your gun is capable of holding, though. A gun that is chambered for 2 3/4" will shoot 3", but it's hard to get them out, if you don't shoot them.
5. I have shot them all and for the $, the Fiocchi loads in #5 shot are hard to beat.
6. you want lead, not steel
you may even want to spring for 'heavy shot' which is tungstun and some other stuff that is actually a bit heavier than lead, although I don't think this is necessary
You want a large shot size, #4 is going to be big enough to get the job done, and it will be pretty easy to find. You just don't see #2 lead anymore.
Of course, you must buy shells of the right gauge for your gun, and second, you must buy the right length for your gun, but get the most potent shells you can get. Look for Max Load, or Dram Equivalent Max on the boxes.
Look for boxes that say 'turkey load'
